One of my long-standing wishes, which I am more than happy to mention at events, is to die happily in Plauen at an old age. Many people will say that, for heaven’s sake, you should not be thinking about that when you are only 41. That may be true, but Plauen is home for me; it is where I was born, where I live, work and get involved creatively – and I do not want to live anywhere else…

We have been successfully training young apprentices at our family-managed 4-star Hotel Alexandra, which is located right in the pedestrian zone in Plauen, for more than 23 years and can call many long-standing employees our own. That makes us very proud, because members of staff form the heart of any company.

They play a major role in ensuring that guests feel at home. Even our current chef completed his training with us in 1993 – 1996 after gaining excellent school-leaving exams; he stayed with us, although many of his friends moved away and sought happiness there. Having gained many qualifications and attended further training courses, he is the perfect chef and has never regretting his decision to stay here. Our head of reception, who was born in Plauen, returned home after spending many years away after completing her university course and gaining professional experience. She is delighted by her decision.

Employee motivation and development are some of our top priorities.

“Why travel so far when happiness is just round the corner?” We have always taken this slogan to heart, whether it involved the complete redevelopment of the building in the past or our partners and suppliers now – we prefer companies based in our own region. There are so many really excellent companies in the Vogtland region, which are even major players in the international arena. Many people would be surprised by the expertise and potential available at these firms. 

Our company welcomes a wide variety of guests from all over the world. They range from business travellers to tourists and even artists – there is a bit of everything. One of our strengths is that we place great importance on quality, friendliness and individuals. The well-known singer Ivan Rebroff once said during one of his periods of residence that the Hotel Alexandra and Plauen were a bit like home for him. “The people are very friendly and the town is wonderful,” he added.
